Simple But Profound

Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

James 4:17

One main theme in the book of James is “knowing and doing are two separate acts.” While it is important to know the right thing to do, yet not doing it is to “miss the mark.” One needs to grasp the concept that knowledge needs to be applied to be of any worth.

Being a follower of Jesus requires not only a new birth, but a new way of living. A way of living conducted in accordance with what is revealed in the New Testament.

Study the Word of God to know the right thing to do. And “hit the mark” by applying what you have learned.

Simply put, knowledge of the right thing to do without doing it is worthless, vain, empty. As Jesus said to the lawyer who answered His question rightly, “Go and do.”
