RIGHTEOUSNESS Observations Even the hypocrite admires righteousness. That's why he imitates it. Where there is no thirst for righteousness the sermon is always dry. Righteousness does not consist in being just a little less bad than others. A hypocrite is one who is not himself on Sunday. "So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness." Matthew 23:28
Warnings "For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:20 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 6:1
Remedy: Righteous Living For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age. Titus 2:11-12 Quotations from NASB |
