Contentment
A Learned Characteristic
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever
circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know
how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret
of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
Philippians 4:11-12
Contentment is not an inborn trait. It is developed over time. It involves counting
your blessings, not your desires. It involves putting your trust in the Lord implicitly.
It is being more focused on disposition rather than position.
The textbook of Contentment contains chapters on Patience, Forbearance,
Understanding, and most of all, Faith. It's in the application of the knowledge gained
that one learns contentment.
An Afterthought
One way to learn contentment is to think how happy you would be if you lost
everything you have right now–and then gained it back.
