Thursday's Thought (C) A Weekly Inspirational Message "Something to help you through the remainder of the week." |
Thursday, January 12, 2006 Habit Definition: A recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior, that is acquired through frequent repetition. Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. Hebrews 10:25
"As Is the Habit of Some" Through frequent repetition, often by unconscious behavior, some developed a habit of absenting themselves. (It is said that habits are best developed by (1) acting at every opportunity, and (2) making no exceptions.) Both good habits and bad habits are formed this way. Good habits help us properly guide our actions without fresh thought or conscious effort. Bad habits also help guide without fresh thought, but inappropriately. Hard But Not Impossible Bad habits are hard to break. But they must be broken and can be broken by conscious effort. Also good habits are hard to break and must be carefully preserved. (It is beyond dispute that anyone who has made it a habit not to miss church services, finds it difficult to miss. Conversely, the one who has formed the habit of absenting himself or herself finds it easier to miss than attend.) What To Do? Develop good habits by (1) acting at every opportunity to do good, and (2) making no exceptions. "and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds" Hebrews 10:24 |
