Excuses

One definition: Reasons or grounds offered to be released from obligations.

Sometimes we may have committed ourselves to do something but the opportunity to do something else is found to be more inviting. Thus we may seek to be excused from the first commitment. What we find more inviting reveals much about ourselves and our character.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Luke 12:34

When one who has made the commitment to be a disciple of the Lord finds something of this world more inviting, one may begin to offer excuses. (Not wanting to offend the Lord–just wanting the Lord to be a little understanding.)

But He [Jesus] said to him, "A certain man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for everything is ready now.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, 'I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.' And another one said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.' And another one said, 'I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.'”

Luke 14:16-20

None were excused then! None will be now
