If you love Me,
you will keep My commandments.
John 14:15

"Love " is the motivator.
"Keep My commandments" is the action.
Both are necessary. They cannot be separated.

To say "I love the Lord," but not obey Him is not enough.
Giving lip service (saying but not doing) is an effort in futility.

Jesus said, "This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far away from me."
Matthew 15:8
~~~~~~~
To obey Him out of duty, but not love is not enough.
This is no more than an attempt to be saved by works.
The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:8
~~~~~~~
The right motivation (love) producing the right actions (obedience): that's what it's all about.

Obedience is not something that weighs one down.
Rather it is that which lifts one up.

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments;
and His commandments are not burdensome.
1 John 5:3
