KNOW THE PERSON

I recently read this quote by Philip Stanhope, earl of Chesterfield, "many a man would rather you heard his story than granted his request."* This made me stop and think about the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30:

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Jesus wants us to know Him personally as well as know what he says. Jesus wants His followers to hear His story: Who He is, where He came from, why He came, what His goals are, where He is now. To know His power, to know His love, to know His kindness, to know His willingness to forgive, to know His salvation.

The new Testament reveals, not only the plan of salvation, but the author of our salvation.

Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.

Hebrews 12:2

KNOW THE MAN AS WELL AS THE PLAN

And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God and eternal life.

1 John 5:20

If you only focus on what is being said and not the person who is speaking, change your focus!
