The Power of Words

A Warning

And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity.

James 3:6

A Confession

I have been hurt, and have hurt others, more by words than by physical blows. And I dare say this is true for more than a few. The amount of hurt would be significantly reduced if all would listen to (and heed) the following:

Listen More, Speak Less!

This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be

quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.

James 1:19

Heal Not Hurt

There is one who speaks rashly* like the thrusts of a sword,

but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 12:18

[*to babble; hence to holler angrily; speak unadvisedly.]

Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

Colossians 4:6

Careful Not Careless

"But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Matthew 12:36-37

So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.

James 2:12

Resolve to make sure that your words heal not harm!
