Become Like Children

[Jesus] said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:3

Jesus said this because the Apostles had been discussing who was the greatest in the kingdom.

LIKE CHILDREN?

What are little children like? Children are, to a great extent, destitute of worldly ambition, pride, and lust for power. They are typically humble and teachable.

The followers of Jesus must lay aside any selfish ambition to be great and any pride, and be willing to occupy the position of a servant. To be great in the kingdom one must assume the servant role: As Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve.

SERVANTS

Elders serve, deacons serve, ministers serve, and members serve one another.

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Galatians 5:13

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3-4
